The Baxter Close YMCA Youth Soccer League is for ages 3-12. This program is a youth recreational league that allows participants of all levels a chance to play. At the Y, every child plays at least half of every game. The leagues will emphasizes soccer skill development, good sportsmanship, character development, teamwork, and most importantly: FUN!

Age Divisions

Age determination is based on the age of the participant on or before May 2nd, 2026.

Practices and Games

3&4 age division will do a “practice/play”. They have a 20-minute practice then a game directly after the practice. First game will be March 11th at 5pm.

UNIFORM INFORMATION

The multi-sport reversible jersey must be ordered before the  first game. Please use this link to order your jersey.

REGISTRATION FEE

Members: $75 Non-Member: $150

Additional Information

Coaches Meeting:  February 24th from 6-7pm

Team information: February 27th

Sick Policy: If you child is showing any flu like symptoms, please do not attend practice or games. Your child may return to practice and games when there are no symptoms.

  • If the YMCA has to cancel any programming due to government mandate in the State of South Carolina or if the YMCA chooses to cancel due to rising cases or exposure within the program, then we would offer participants the option to have an online credit placed on their account or for a full refund back to their original payment method.
  • If the parent or player cannot participate because they have been asked to quarantine or are sick, then a refund would not be given.

Weather Policy: Games and Practices are subject to being canceled due to weather. Games and practices may not be made up and no refunds will be given due to weather.

  2. Introduction to Positioning
  3. Introduction to Dribbling
  4. Basic Shooting Form

  3. Finishing & Shooting
  4. Proper Goalkeeping Technique

This is where motor skills are more refined. Children now can think in advance and begin to anticipate where the ball will be, as well as have the ability to stay at tasks longer. Children can identify with a team and begin to make friends. Socialization becomes very important. This is where “traditional” soccer is beginning as we transition to the 8v8 format with the addition of a Goalkeeper. Repetition of skills becomes very important.

  3. Introduction to One-on-One Defense
  4. Ball Control & Dribbling

The U8 program encourages movement through soccer-related children’s games. A young player’s soccer experience should be a positive and fun one. Competitive pressures should be discouraged and players should be focused on the “everyone wins” theory. U8 players will be expected to be able to dribble with both feet, develop a soft first touch, and be comfortable shooting and passing. More importantly, they will have fun and develop a love for the game.
